The Medicaid Waiver Program

The Family Caregiver Program, also called the Medicaid Waiver Program, is designed to support individuals who find themselves caring for a family member, a friend, or a neighbor. Through this program, and in partnership with home care agencies like Guardian Home Care USA, family caregivers can receive wages and benefits for the care they already provide. They also receive recognition and support so they can deliver care without compromising their needs and well-being.

How Do I Qualify For The Family Caregiver Program?

It’s important to know that this Medicaid-funded program and the eligibility criteria are state-specific. That being said, most states require some common criteria. For example, the care seeker needs to be Medicaid eligible or active, and have a physical or mental ailment that poses a risk to their safety or prevents them from accomplishing daily living tasks.

Some states require further criteria, for example, in regards to the relationship with the family caregiver. Find out more at Medicaid.gov’s Home & Community-Based Services page.

Want to know if we service your state? Visit our Locations page and see if there’s a local office in your area, or give us a call. We’d love to guide you on the steps for qualification and how to receive home care benefits through us.

How Guardian Home Care USA Can Help

Qualified individuals for The Family Caregiver Program are typically approved to receive home care and supportive services for a certain number of hours each week and the family caregiver can get paid by Guardian Home Care USA accordingly. If for some reason the family caregiver is unable to work or the person needing care requires more hours than what one caregiver could provide, our care team will supplement with our own caregivers.

What Do Caregivers Under The Family Caregiver Program Actually Do?

Caregivers who provide supportive services to careseekers are able to give non-medical care. They typically help with daily activities and a range of services when giving care to individuals, such as the following:
01

Medication management (medication reminders, etc.)

02

Companion services

03

Meal preparation

04

Grocery shopping

05

Client Stories

“Anne is hands down the most wonderful aide I’ve ever had. She takes care of everything I need–laundry, cleaning, and more. She’s always there for me, even in the middle of the night. I really appreciate all her hard work, and I just love when she comes by. Anne is the sweetest, and I want everyone to know how much she means to me”.
