Medicare generally does not cover ongoing non-medical home care when personal or custodial care is the only care needed, such as help with bathing, dressing, and other daily activities. This applies broadly to non-medical home care services, not just Guardian Home Care of Indiana. Medicare may cover certain short-term, medically necessary home health services for eligible individuals. If you're unsure about your coverage, contact our team to explore your options.
Your caregiver options may depend on how your services are funded and structured. In some Indiana Medicaid home care arrangements, an approved relative or other trusted person may be able to provide Attendant Care. Guardian Home Care of Indiana can help you understand available caregiver options based on your approved services and care plan. Indiana Medicaid confirmed in 2026 that relatives and legal guardians of adults may be paid caregivers under Attendant Care, subject to program requirements and service limits.
If your caregiver is unable to work, our team will communicate with you and work to coordinate appropriate coverage based on your care needs and caregiver availability. We understand how important continuity of care is and will keep you informed throughout the process.
The timeline depends on your care needs, funding source, approved services, and caregiver availability. If you already have approved Medicaid services or are switching home care providers, the process may differ from someone who is still applying for Medicaid waiver services. Coverage and authorized services vary based on your individual needs and Medicaid program.
Not automatically. Having Indiana Medicaid does not necessarily mean you're approved for home and community-based waiver services.
